The Campaign for Family-Friendly Trains is a group of parents and carers working for better facilities for children and their families on the UK rail network

The problem

A pushchair in the vestibule area on a Great Western Railway Intercity Express Train

Most UK train operating companies insist that pushchairs and prams are folded and stored in luggage racks.

This isn’t practical for many parents, especially if the child is sleeping or the parent is travelling alone.

Many parents instead resort to standing in the vestibule areas (even if they hold a seat reservation) or choose alternative modes of travel.

The solution

We believe that space for unfolded pushchairs and prams should be provided on trains, as in many other European countries.

A clearly marked space for pushchairs on board a train in Finland.
